Bolts

Bolts are heavy-duty externally threaded fasteners with a cylindrical body and a hexagonal or square head. Designed for use in structural applications, bolts are inserted into pre-drilled holes and secured with a nut, creating a reliable, load-bearing joint. They are commonly used in construction, automotive, and mechanical industries to fasten materials like steel, wood, or other metal components. They offer high tensile strength and are available in various types like hex bolts, carriage bolts, and flange bolts.

Nuts

Nuts are internally threaded fasteners with a hexagonal or square shape, meant to mate with a bolt or threaded rod. When the nut is tightened onto the bolt, it holds the components in place securely by creating a strong tension between the fastened parts. Nuts come in different types, including hex nuts, wing nuts, lock nuts, and flange nuts. Locking mechanisms like nylon inserts or serrated faces are often used to prevent loosening under vibrations or dynamic loads.

Screws

Screws are versatile fasteners with an externally threaded cylindrical shaft and a head, typically slotted or Phillips, designed to be driven into materials with or without pre-drilled holes. Unlike bolts, screws can often create their own thread in softer materials like wood or plastic, making them ideal for tasks such as joining cabinetry, metal plates, or securing electrical equipment. Types of serews include wood screws, machine screws, and sheet metal screws.

U-Bolts

U-Bolts are U-shaped fasteners with threads on both ends, primarily designed to secure round objects like pipes, tubes, or cables to a surface. Common in automotive and construction industries, they are used to fasten exhaust systems, support pipework, or secure mechanical components in place. The curved section fits around the object, while the threaded ends allow for nuts to clamp the object to a plate or surface. U-bolts come in varying sizes and diameters to accommodate different pipe sizes.

Self Drilling Screws

Self-drilling screws are fasteners with a pointed, drill-like tip that eliminates the need for a pre-drilled hole. The drill tip cuts its own hole during installation, making these screws highly efficient for metal-to-metal or metal-to-wood applications. Commonly used in roofing, cladding, and assembling metal structures, they have a sharp point that penetrates thin metals and sheet materials. Types include roofing screws. Tek screws, and wing-tipped screws for fastening softer materials.

Threaded Rods

Threaded rods, also known as studs, are long, straight metal rods with continuous threading along their entire length. These rods are often used in tension applications, like suspending structures or bolting large components together. They can be cut to length for custom applications. In construction, threaded rods serve to stabilize concrete walls, secure beams, or assemble scaffolding. They can be used with nuts, washers, and anchor bolts to create durable joints.

Washers

Washers are thin, flat dises or plates with a central hole, used under the head of a bolt or nut to distribute the load evenly over a larger surface area, protecting the material being fastened from damage. They also help prevent loosening by absorbing vibrations. Washers come in various forms such as flat washers, lock washers (which resist loosening), and fender washers (which have a large surface area). They are essential in applications where tension must be maintained or surfaces must be protected.

Spring Washers

Spring washers are coiled or conical washers designed to provide a compressive force when installed in a fastened joint. The spring action creates tension that helps maintain the tightness of the joint, preventing loosening due to vibrations or thermal expansion. They are typically used in automotive and machinery applications where dynamic loads are present. Split lock washers, Belleville washers, and wave washers are common types that prevent loosening by maintaining constant pressure.

Rivets

Rivets are permanent fasteners used to join two or more materials by deforming the tail of the rivet after insertion, forming a second head. Unlike bolts, rivets are not removed easily and are used where a strong, vibration- resistant joint is needed. They are commonly used in the aerospace, shipbuilding, and construction industries. There are different types of rivets, including solid rivets, pop rivets, and blind rivets, each suited for specific applications.

Horse Nails

Horse nails are specially designed nails used by farriers to attach horseshoes to a horse’s hooves. These nails are typically long, thin, and have a tapered, chisel-shaped head that makes them easier to drive into the hard hoof wall without causing damage. The unique shape ensures a firm and secure hold, allowing the horseshoe to remain in place despite the rigors of daily use. Horse nails are essential in equestrian care, particularly for workhorses, racehorses, and recreational riding.
